Without one, you may not like the answer. Ask for proof of insurance from anyone who works on your property. Real outfits expect the question.

Moving a small pile, rough-cutting a farm path, spreading a load of stone on an existing drive? The guy with the backhoe might be exactly the right call. Anything that involves depth, water, structure, or things that are buried deserves the license, the insurance, and the markouts.
