Automatic Gate Site Work & Trenching
Footings, power and control lines run underground so your gate works for years.
An automatic gate needs solid footings and a line of power and control wire run out to it, often a long way from the house. We handle the excavation side: post and operator footings, trenching or boring the conduit back to power, and room on the same run for a keypad, intercom, camera and lights. The gate goes up on a base that will not move.
How we do it
An automatic gate is mostly ground work. Posts and the operator need concrete footings set below frost so the gate does not sag or bind after a winter, and the opener needs power and control wire brought out to it in conduit, often from a house a few hundred feet away.
We dig and pour the footings, trench or bore the conduit back to power, and leave room for the keypad, the intercom and a camera on the same run. Our electrician partner makes the connections, and the gate installer or manufacturer hangs and programs the gate on a base that will hold it.

Automatic Gates: what people ask us
Do you build and hang the gate?
We do the site work that makes a gate last: post and operator footings, trenching and conduit for power and controls, and the driveway work around it. Hanging and programming the gate is done by the gate installer or with our partners, and we coordinate so it all happens in the right order.
How do you get power out to a gate at the end of a long driveway?
In conduit, underground. We trench along the driveway or bore under it, and size the conduit so the keypad, intercom, camera and any lights can share the run instead of digging again later.
Why do gates sag or stop closing?
Usually the posts moved. A post set shallow, or in fill that was never compacted, heaves with frost and the gate binds. Footings set to depth in undisturbed or compacted ground fix that.
