One of our top customers called us out to State Route 206 in Newton, NJ for an urgent NJDOT emergency involving underground telecommunications lines.
The problem
After decades of use, the riser and lid used to access the underground telecom lines had reached its failing point. The lid no longer sat flush and wobbled with every vehicle that passed, a real hazard on a state highway.
Fast, but careful
We inspected the site with NJDOT officials and the Newton Police at 8 a.m. on a Friday, and by 8 p.m. that same night we were on the job. The work included removing the existing asphalt, carefully removing and replacing the riser without damaging the manhole, and repaving the area.
Prepared for surprises
On closer inspection we found hairline cracks in the manhole. Our crew had planned ahead and brought the material to handle exactly that. We applied hydraulic cement to seal it, keeping water out and the telecommunications equipment dry for years to come.
This is the kind of emergency utility work JWSR is built for. Call or text 862-268-2510 anytime.
